Description
The Flea Signature Roadworn Jazz Bass is a meticulous recreation of Flea´s own 1961 Jazz Bass that provided the funky backbone of Red Hot Chili Peppers classics like "Under the Bridge" and "Californication." Flea received the vintage Shell Pink bass as a gift from a fan and Fender has painstakingly recreated every worn detail, from the faded nitrocellulose lacquer finish to the engraved Flea logo neck plate. The result is a bass that looks, plays and sounds like an old friend.
Unique Shell Pink Finish Ages Gracefully
The Shell Pink finish is one of Fender´s rarest custom colors, used only briefly in the early 1960s and Flea´s bass is likely the only example still in existence. Fender has recreated the exact shade of faded pink, then distressed it further with a Road Worn nitrocellulose lacquer finish for an authentically aged look. Underneath, an alder body and maple neck provide a resonant foundation for the vintage tone.
Vintage-Accurate Specs Channel Early Fender
From the 20-fret rosewood fingerboard to the threaded steel barrel bridge saddles, every detail of the Flea Signature Roadworn Jazz Bass is crafted to vintage-correct specifications. The thick C-shaped neck profile feels substantial in the hand, while the 7.25" fingerboard radius and 1.5" nut width provide an authentic playing feel.
Pure Vintage ´64 Pickups Power a Modern Sound
The Flea Signature Roadworn Jazz Bass owes its tone to a pair of Pure Vintage ´64 Jazz Bass pickups, hand-wound to replicate the sound of early 1960s Fender pickups. Clear lows, punchy mids and singing highs give this bass a voice that cuts through a mix with articulate clarity and harmonic richness. Volume and tone controls for each pickup, plus a master tone control, provide tonal versatility.
A Legendary Bassist´s Stamp of Approval
Flea´s innovative and melodic basslines redefined rock music and his 1961 Jazz Bass was instrumental in crafting his signature sound. Fender´s painstaking recreation of this iconic instrument carries Flea´s personal stamp of approval, right down to the engraved neck plate. For bassists seeking Flea´s unmistakable tone and mojo, the Flea Signature Roadworn Jazz Bass delivers in spades.
